Step by step
How to get an apostille in Argentina
Check that you are over 18 and have a tax key (Clave Fiscal) of level 2 or higher with an Argentine bank account linked to it.2
Sign in to the TAD platform, search for Apostilla and start the application for electronic public documents.2
Check your details, accept the terms, which say fees are not refunded if the request cannot be processed, and attach the digitally signed document.2
Confirm the request and pay the electronic payment slip (VEP) through the Link or Pago mis Cuentas network.2
After at least 72 working hours a TAD file number is created, and the apostille, whose number starts with CE, is notified within about 30 working days.2
Alternatively, apply in person at the Notarial College of your province, or at an Argentine consulate if you are abroad.2

Before the apostille
Private documents
A private document, such as a power of attorney or a contract, is first signed in front of a notary public, and the apostille then goes on the notary’s certificate. A copy of a public document from another country is first certified by a notary public, then apostilled.
An apostille only confirms the signature, the role of the person who signed and any seal or stamp on the document. It does not confirm what the document says. The office that receives the document decides what it accepts.
Questions
Questions about apostilles in Argentina
Does Argentina accept apostilles?
Yes. Argentina has been a member of the Apostille Convention since 18 February 1988, so it issues and accepts apostilles for documents exchanged with other member countries.
Who issues apostilles in Argentina?
Ministry of Foreign Affairs, International Trade and Worship (Ministerio de Relaciones Exteriores, Comercio Internacional y Culto), Legalisations Coordination, through the TAD online platform (argentine public documents, including civil registry certificates, study documents, notarial documents, court documents, criminal record certificates, public translations and commercial documents) and Notarial Colleges of Argentina (Colegios de Escribanos), under an agreement with the Federal Council of Argentine Notaries (CFNA) (documents of the same jurisdiction, without prior legalisation by the Ministry of the Interior).
How much does an apostille cost in Argentina?
ARS 4,500 (per apostille or legalisation requested through TAD). ARS 1,500 (legalisation with international validity (not an apostille) of civil status certificates only, through TAD). Fees can change, so check the office’s own page before you apply.
How long does an apostille take in Argentina?
The office says: Through TAD the average resolution time is 30 working days and the payment takes at least 72 working hours to be confirmed; through a Notarial College the time must be asked of each college.
Do I need to notarise a private document first?
Yes. A private document, such as a power of attorney or a contract, is first signed in front of a notary public. The apostille is then added to the notary’s certificate, not to the private document itself.
Is an apostille valid in countries that are not Convention members?
No. An apostille only works in other member countries. Countries outside the Convention use a different process, usually called legalisation. The office that receives your document decides what it accepts.
